My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Psalms 57:7
The importance of music
I love this video as it speaks to my passion for music and my need to see people doing things for their fellow man. We live in a very hard world and it is so inspiring to see people working together to create instruments for those who cannot afford them. Then teach those kids to play those instruments and make beautiful music for everyone to enjoy.
I was fortunate to be born in Canada, to middle class parents that worked very hard to provide us with every opportunity in life. I was also blessed with very musical parents whose passion was not only passed on in my genes but in my daily life. By the time I was in grade 8 I sang, played piano, trumpet and French horn. Instruments I still play to this day. Maybe not as well as I did in my teen years, but when I find a spare minute I can still pull out the instruments and play them.
Music, my saving grace
Music was my saving grace in high school. When most of my class mates were attending parties and having weekend drinking binges, I was busy practicing my instruments and learning the music for the next big performance. Music not only kept me out of trouble, but my brother and sister as well. My sister went on to get her bachelor of music degree in University, while I did the political science route, and my brother went on into sales. Music continued to remain a huge part of my life. I continued to play the piano, sang in church and on the stage as I pursued a career in the performing arts.
A gift from God
I truly believe music is a gift from God for the fallen human race, to try and bring us closer to Him. It’s a taste of how glorious it will be when Jesus comes again and we are all gathered to His side. The old adage that music soothes the savage beast, is very true. Nothing relaxes me more than being able to sit down at my piano and just play. My soul is refueled and I know Jesus is with me. It had been 5 years since I had a piano at my finger tips, but after a recent move we were able to purchase a piano second hand.
Words cannot express how I felt when I sat down and played it again for the first time. Of course I’m still very rusty and I was never a piano prodigy, but I always enjoyed playing for myself and it is coming back nicely. I’m still not ready to play for others, but that will come in time.
Hearing God speak
God speaks to me through music in a way I can’t describe. That’s why the documentary above really touched my soul. These kids are getting the opportunity of a lifetime because of the hard work of the men and women who put these instruments together for them. How incredible to have people working together for such a glorious cause. To create music, community and a sense of self worth that these children would never have had access to before. I pray that God will continue to bless the efforts of these amazing people and that their efforts will grow and multiply around the world. It is just another example of how God can do much with very little. There truly is nothing God can’t do when men and women answer the call that He puts in their hearts.
Eternal life
He is an awesome God that can provide things no one else can; namely eternal life. Eternal life is a gift from God that is yours for the taking. All you need to do is seek God with all your heart. To accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior, repent of your sins and live like He did. When you accept Jesus into your heart and life, He will change you one day at a time.
I can’t wait to hear the glorious music that we will experience when Jesus comes again and frees us from the pain of this world. I pray that when that day comes, you will be there too!
