MY FAVOURITE PLACE TO STAY

My favourite place to stay on our trips to the BC coast is 3 Valley Gap between Golden and Revelstoke. Our first sighting of this magnificent place was over 20 years ago, and ever since if we are travelling between May and October this is where we stay. We are a 13 hour drive away from our family on the Coast of BC, so staying overnight along the way is a must. This is why I love staying here so much!

The incomparable Three Valley Lake Chateau!!!

WHY IS 3 VALLEY GAP MY FAVOURITE PLACE TO STAY?

Ever since our first visit to Calgary to visit my brother, I fell in love with 3 Valley Gap! Hwy 1 or the Trans Canada Hwy, is a very windy trip from Kamloops through the Rocky Mountains on your way to Alberta. After descending down the hill you curve around to the breath taking view of the Three Valley Lake, and the palatial red and white Three Valley Lake Chateau. It’s such a surprise when the Douglas Fir lined roads open up to this incredible view! Stunning doesn’t even come close to describing it.

Over the years since I first visited it, they have expanded the Heritage Ghost Town, and put a roof over the Train and Antique Automobile Museum. We even went on the Mine Train Ride, and it was really fun! The staff are so friendly, the rooms clean, and the food is excellent. The rooms all overlook the lake with relaxing balconies where you can take in the grandeur of the lake and mountains. The location allows you to access many other local tourist sites as well.

WHAT 3 VALLEY GAP HAS TO OFFER?

The resort has 200 rooms, with some specialty suites for honeymoons or special events. They have a restaurant, gift shop, pool, hot tub, entertainment room, Heritage Ghost Town, Antique Railway and Cars, Helicopter Tours, Kayaks to rent for the lake, and a playground. I love their gift shop, as it always has fun and unique things to buy. The Heritage Ghost Town is super cool, and even offers vaudeville type shows and entertainment. The Antique Railway is impressive, and we learned a lot from the staff that were there to answer questions.

One of the many miniature displays around the Chateau. Just wandering the hallways can be an adventure in itself!

I love all the antiques and miniature displays that are all over the Chateau. Just walking the hotel hallways provides cool experiences at every turn. The wifi can be spotty at times, but there are hot spots on site you can go to if you need it. It is a tourist destination, so there are no pets allowed. We don’t usually travel with our pets, so this hasn’t been an issue for us. Even though it’s right off the Hwy, it is fairly remote, and quiet which I really love. I always feel so refreshed after staying there.

The location between the three mountains can cause the lake to have rather intense currents when the winds change, so be careful taking little ones out on the kayaks if you aren’t a strong rower. We learned this the hard way when our kids were little, and only by the grace of God were we able to get back to shore.

THINGS I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO?

The quiet is something I really forward to when I’m there. I love the majestic mountains that surround the chateau. The eagles are incredible to watch circling overhead. I always leave our sliding door open and the screen locked so we can fall asleep listening to nature and the soft flow of traffic from the freeway. It sounds like rushing water and is very relaxing. Having the incredible scent of the evergreens coming through the screen is so comforting.

The swimming pool is one of my favourite things at the chateau because of the incredible Titanic murals on the walls. It tells the story of Titanic and my kids love it. The temperature is always perfect, and the hot tub is wonderful! There is a large multipurpose entertainment room off the pool where you can play shuffle board and other games. There are tons of places to relax and read a book like the indoor gardens, and the library in the hotel lobby.

The Gardens are impeccable; we love walking the paths around them and enjoying the fresh air. After spending 7 hours in a car, this gem of an oasis never fails to be one of the highlights of our trip! If you want to see more, check out my Youtube vlog: https://youtu.be/I-CNbY8d6eo
