Benefits of natural electrolyte drinks
Electrolyte drinks help bring our salt and water content back into balance. Since our body is roughly 80% water, we need to have the correct balance in order for our blood to get nutrients where they need to go. When our water levels drop through sweat and urination, we need to keep them replenished. That’s why your doctor recommends you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
However, sometimes activity in the sun or heat can cause us to lose water faster than usual. This can lead to heat or sunstroke, migraines, and dizziness. The quickest way to replenish the water we have lost is through natural electrolyte drinks. What makes natural electrolyte drinks better than just water is the salt they provide.
But isn’t salt bad for you?
It may surprise you, but salt isn’t necessarily bad for you. Some overly processed salts like iodized salt is not good for you due to the healthy substances being removed. For more detailed information on which salt is best to use and why click here. In truth, the best salts to use for human consumption are Celtic Sea salt, and Himalayan rock salt. They are not over-processed, so the body can easily utilize them to pull water into our cells. If you find you run to the bathroom after drinking water, you probably haven’t consumed enough salt. Furthermore, taking just a few grains of salt on your tongue before drinking water will get the water into your cells where it belongs.
Another benefit our making your own natural electrolyte drink is the cost effectiveness. The ingredients are not expensive and you can make it at anytime, or even in advance if you are planning outdoor activities. I hope you give this recipe a try the next time you are feeling dehydrated, experiencing diarrhea, migraines, or dizziness!
